How often do you upgrade your phone?

I have had a Galaxy s3 for a while now. It works fine other then some video noise issues so I see no point in upgrading. I see people getting new phones every year, sometimes 2 in one year! Why!? I feel like it is such a waste of money.

I usually upgrade my phone with a new contract.
I usually get contracts for 2 years, then after those 2 years I can renew the contract and get a free phone with it.

Usually every 2-3 years or until someone decides to be overly nice and get me a new one, lol.

My smartphone is on a 2 year running contract, so I upgrade every 24 months, but I wish I could upgrade sooner sometimes as there's always a better phone that comes out before I have the opportunity.

These days, a 2 year old phone becomes dated a lot easier, phones are constantly improving.
